Not sure if you were comparing Coleby to Kirk or to our incoming transfer Ado. If you meant Ado and you meant to compare their stats in the season they were both starters on D-1 teams then it would be Ado's sopmore year at Northern Colorado and Coleby's junior year at Louisiana Lafayette. Hard to make a case for Coleby having better stats in very comparable playing time and competition.

Coleby: 24.4 m/g, 9.5ppg, 4.9 rbs, 73 blks, .8 as, .500 ft%, .00 3pt%, .561 fg%
Ado: 21.4 m/g, 9.6ppg, 4.1 rbs, 10 blks,1.0 as, .753 ft%, .457 3pt%, .520 fg%

What's obvious in those stats is Ado can step out and hit shots and make fts, while Coleby is a more physical presence defensively. Neither rebounded particularly well for post players.I'm not sure how good either one actually will be, but it'd be hard to make a case based on past stats or performance for one being clearly better than the other. Right now, however, I wouldn't bet against Tyler McCullough, our 6'10 freshman being our starter in the post. He is very fundamentally sound, not a great shot blocker or out of space rebounder, but very smart with the ball, excellent footwork, and finishes with either hand well. He won't wow ya, but he does alot of things that contribute and make those around him better. He's a more mobile and athletic Creekmore with a little more size as well.

Always interesting comparing stats and trying to project players future performance. Another good comparison is Darius Carter and Ron Mvoueka. They will play different positions and bring different skill sets, but both are Juco players looking to replace key performers and contribute immediately. Mvoueka didn't get the accolades of Carter, but he was originally signed by Virg Tech and did lead his juco team to two straight Juco National Tourney appearences.

Carter: 15.8 ppg, 8.3 rbs, .544 fg%, .596 ft%, 27 assists, made 2/4 3pt shots
Mvoueka: 19.3 ppg, 8.2 rbs, 48.2 %, .720 ft%, 74 assists, made 54 treys and shot 38% from there.

Both should play alot whether in the starting lineup or off the bench for their respective teams. Wouldn't shock me for the Bears to keep Marshall at the pg at least early on with pretty good depth at the 2/3 or wings. If so they could start 6'3, 6'5, 6'5, 6'7, 6'10. Quite an improvement size wise over last years undersized unit. Summer's speculation is always fun.

I meant Ado. Kirk hasn't played his junior season.

I did not mean to compare Coleby's Junior to Ado's sophomore season. If I had meant to do that, I would have said that. I meant to compare statistics of junior's that transferred after their junior year.

I wouldn't predict one of Coleby or Ado to be statistically better than the other. They really are different players, and perhaps a 6-7 center that can shoot threes fits into the MSU scheme better than a strong 6-9 body up center. Ado may be the Bears best outside threat next year. Three things MSU needed last year: experience, perimeter shooting, size. Ado brings it all, so no reason it won't work out.

I look forward to seeing McCullough as well as Bradley and Ill State's freshman centers. All will be pretty raw this year I would imagine.

I actually don't find Carter and Mvoueka as interesting comparisons. They are both good and should help their team, but since one is guard oriented and the other is a post, I don't think there is much to say until they take the court. Perhaps Lofton at Ill St is a better statistical comparison for Mvoueka? Lofton averaged 17 and 4 as a freshman I believe. Any idea why Mvouika wasn't one of the 50 NJCAA All-Americans with stats like that?

Very comparable competition? 2011/12 stats (when each played last):

Sun Belt: 20th ranked conference by RPI
Big Sky: 26th ranked conference by RPI
Louisiana-Lafayette's SOS ranked 199th
Northern Colorado's SOS ranked 274th

Neither was playing against Valley competition, but LA-Lafayette and Northern Colorado were clearly not playing the same level of competition.

Coleby had a significantly higher FG%, more than 7 times as many blocks, and almost a full extra rebound a game against tougher competition. Clearly Ado can hit some 3s, which is nice ... but isn't really relevant in a discussion regarding the statistics of a center.

Meanwhile you're comparing the stats of a PF to the stats of a SG. The only relevant notes in that comparison are that Carter is a JUCO AA and ranked #8 on jucorecruiting.com, while Mvoueka is #81.

Ado is actualy a little over 6'8 , probably packs about 230 now, so he has some size. But he is more a 4 than a 5 in how he likes to play. He'll definitely help with depth and the rotation at both front court positions. He's not a shot blocker or glass cleaner, but he is pretty versatile offensively.Don't look for him to take a lot of treys, but he makes you guard him at 20 feet and that can be a tough match for some 4/5 types in the league. He can take you off the bounce from there if you come out too hard as well.

I think McCullogh will surprise; not necessarily with his stats, but with his poise and BB IQ. I will be shocked if he isn't getting major minutes from Day 1. Every one will get a kick out of our 5'11 pg from the East Coast. He has rare quickness and plays with that East Coast swag. He will make alot of plays both bad and good because of his aggressiveness, but he will entertain.

Also, you should really learn how to spell the names of your own players, BEARZ77. It's getting ridiculous. You have no one on your team next year named "Ado," "McCullogh," or "Mvoueka."

Is Addo REALLY getting taller at age 22? No matter. I am doubtful that Carl Hall was really his listed 6-8, at least after the braids were cut off. No idea if Carter at WSU is really 6-7, 230 or if Morris is 6-8, 280.

Who's the 5-11 east coast PG? Devon Thomas? I really thought that Marshall was the PG and Williams was the back-up. Perhaps I am mistaken or they were playing out of position last year?

What is your real guess at the Bears starting line-up next year? Do you truly expect McCullough to play 20 minutes (major minutes?) as a freshman? Here's my HONEST guess for the Bears:

PG: Williams
SG: Marshall
SF: Scheer
PF: Gulley
C: Kirk

Bench

PG: Thomas?
SG: Ruder
SF: Mvouika
PF: Thurman
C: Addo

You should probably concern yourself with other things like understanding basketball instead of trying to be the english monitor. Sad because there was actually a basketball discussion happening until your mouth flapped again.

Unfortunately when you made the statement about fg% differences being so significant in your last post you kinda forgot that 3 pt shots get added to overall fg%, so that when you look at Coleby's % he has no treys included, while Addo does. Take those away and you will find little difference in their fg% for all non treys, but of course Emmanuel can actually shoot a trey and a ft with some skill while evidently Coleby doesn't, while as I noted Coleby is clearly a defensive presence.

As far as my second comparison again reading comprehension kind of escapes you as I clearly stated the difference in positions, but noted the fact both were in a similar position of trying to replace a significant player[ Hall/Downing] I did find it interesting that rebounds were almost exactly the same and again minus treys, fg% were not that different. Ratings are what they are, so do take as much pride as you need to in Carters, but it's funny there was no tone of negativism towards either WSU player on my part, I was just comparing stats and roles.

Have no idea if Addo is growing, just know he's taller than Kirk, a little shorter than McCullough, and Lusk told a friend he was closer to 6'9 than 6'7. Marshall is a combo guard , played the two when Williams started and the point other times. What he will play this year depends on Mvouika and Williams and Thomas. But my guess he will play both again. Hard to say on early starting linup because of experience of Scheer and Gulleys rehab, and because Mvouika is in France for the summer. But would not surprise me if everything goes well that Marcus could stay at pg to start, Mvouika takes the 2, Gulley the 3 , Kirk the 4, and either Addo or Mc Cullough the center spot. Thomas is the kid from the East Coast . Another kid to watch who should have rs last year but couldn't because of numbers, is Simpson. He probably has the most range and purest stroke on the team. He really struggled last year, but things have slowed down for him and he is close to 6'6, very long and athletic, and really shooting the ball from deep with confidence. He will push for being in the top 10 as a designated sniper.
