That's the reason most UNI fans are upset, the league is just making stuff up as they go. The rule was there, it was ignored, setting a precedent that was followed in the Beane case, and has now been altered yet again. Either there are rules or there are not. That's all.
Not only did the MVC office say they wouldn't enforce the sit out rule...they did so before UNI had any comment on the transfer situation.
UNI was f-ed in the a 8 ways to Sunday in that situation.
1. Release the best recruit the program had ever signed (a top 150 recruit) who had all of the potential to be the best player in UNI history coming out of HS like they did to a big conference rival. Not only releasing him, but taking the recruiting set back as there hadn't been much recruiting for post players since he was signed/committed thus setting UNI back a couple years in post depth.
2. Enforce the transfer rule and look like giant dicks for not letting a son play for a dad even though the MVC already said (before they had a chance to comment on it) the rule wouldn't be enforced.
It was a zero win situation for UNI.
I get that the situation is now over and gone...but for fans of other schools not to under stand the "anger" UNI fans have over that situation is just silly.
It's also real funny to see the conference continue to make rules up as it goes on.
On what site was Dougie a top 150 recruit?
NIU fans get all upset, what they have never fully realized or admitted is that papa McD screwed them. He parked his son there knowing full well that Jacobson doesn't have the stones to stand up for himself or the panthers. That is the end of the story had Jacobson wanted to he could have forced dougie to sit but he didn't, move on panther fans. Another thing, there is no way Doug becomes the player he is now in that offense, his defense would have likely kept him off the court.
