Yep, in the Coaches Poll published following the tournament. WSU finished #4 last season in the same poll.

Coaches Poll =/= AP Poll.

You don't remember Salukitalk...err... Valleytalk, do you?

Seriously, I think this thread is also a reminder for certain fans of certain schools just where their place and room for talk is.

Being in the Top 10 is kind of a big deal. If you don't want to partake in it, then don't click on it.

Baller, I remember valleytalk very well. I also remember being one of the more reasonable Saluki fans there.

I apologize, I guess fans should be stroking off to this as it is probably one of the last times we ever see a Valley team that matters. As soon as the big football schools decide to blow this whole system up, we will all be competing for a D2 championship.

57. BU - 128 times (7.9 avg, highest #1)
68. WSU - 97 times (11.5 avg, highest #1)
96. Loyolla - 49 times (6.4 avg, highest #1)
113. Drake - 32 times (14.6 avg, highest #7)
122. ISUB - 22 times (6.5 avg, highest #1)
132. SIU - 17 times (18 avg, highest #11)
150. ISUR - 11 times (17.1 avg, highest #13)
159. UNI - 7 times (23.3 avg, highest #19)
187. MOST - 1 time (20.0 avg, highest #20)

Wonder if the purple teenager can solve the riddle of who is missing from this list.

Don't go back to 1949---false numbers and impressions.. I think only WSU, Bradley and Drake were in the MVC in those early day. Those eventual power house D1 BB schools (Cincy, Louisville, Memphis, Houston, etc.) started leaving the MVC in the mid 60s. Seven of the current member schools joined the MVC in 1975 or later. In the 50s, when the NIT was the top post season college BB tournament, WSU and Bradley were more nationally recognized team than now--Bradley is not that team now, same with WSU except for the last few years. Lots of quality 1950 BB teams are no longer in that category-or iare now in a lesser status: Oklahoma A&M (Okla State-now in Big 12 but not the national power earlier)), Lasalle (with Tom Gola--most of you radio heads probably do not know who tom Gola was/is), Dusequene, Detroit, LU is not the team it was in the 60s, etc. If you want to quote 50s numbesr why not two lists, pre 1974 and post 1975---a more accurate picture .

Yes, you were reasonable but that didn't stop the 24/7 jerkoff sessions SIU fans were inundating the site with during their glory years. It's simple logic. Successful fanbases are going to swell and talk more while winning.

And the thread was a Valley-infused thread, not specifically for WSU. The fact that WSU is the one leading the way in the category isn't our fault.

You are welcome to make up whatever list you want that floats your boat and some might enjoy it- I even provided the link. Frankly I think it is important to remember your history and where you came from and that should give Bradley or Loyola fans some hope.

But if you start at 2000 - WSU going to be #1, SIU #2, Drake #3, UNI #4 with nobody else doing anything. If you start at 75, then you will see #1 WSU, ISUB #2, SIU #3, Bradley #4, drake #5, ISUR #6, UNI #7, Loyola #8. Not all that interesting.

Bradley is due for some success. We need another team to rise to the top with some staying power and Bradley and Ill state are probably the only ones with the wherewithal to pull it off.

Nice to see the Valley getting some love and I agree about the Shockers YTD resume deserving of a #7 (or higher). Keep it up (at least until you play us).

For the record, if we ever crack the top ten, I'm warning you in advance that I will be completely obnoxious:)

I would argue that if it didn't happen in the last 5 years it isn't relevant. SIU's run was fantastic, it is almost completely forgotten.

Therefore I apologize for my earlier post in this thread. Shocker fans should enjoy this. Even if I don't.

I have not forgotten. Every time I thought the Shockers might get the best of the Salukis, it was not to be. It was so frustrating to lose to a team that did not play fast, but did play a rough and tumble defense.

It featured a point guard, I cannot remember his name, who was white and built like a linebacker. I never understood why the Shockers could not get the best of him, but the Shockers never did..

Ruffin?…Nope. I looked it up. It was Bryan Mullins. Ruffin played at BU I believe.
