My question is, who should be getting Simmons minutes? He is a 6-5, 210 lb G-F that is playing mainly the PF position. Here is Marty's other options at the 4:
Jaylon Moore is a 6-7 F-C. He averages 15 minutes, 4.6 points, 2.2 rebounds. with Simmons minutes he would average 9.1 points and 4.3 rebounds.
Rokas Cesnulevicius is a 6-8 F-C. He averages 3 minutes per game. Maybe he's the missing ingredient?
David Howard is a 6-8 F. He averages 7.2 minutes, 2.8 points, and 1.7 rebounds. With Simmons minutes he would average 11 points and 6.8 rebounds.
Simmons averages 8.8 points and 3.2 rebounds. He is also the only player of this group that is capable of spreading the defense with a 3 and he values the basketball.
To me, it looks like Simmons executes the way Dad wants. When one of the other three execute in the same manner, they will get more minutes. If I'm an Aces fan, my only complaint is that the coach did not bring in any talented PFs this year.
P.S. Evansville looks a lot like WSU under Randy Smithson, except that WSU cut ties after 4 years instead of 7+.
My question is, though, that if junior is the best they can do at that position, and even his defenders say he isn't ready for D1 ball, whose fault is that?
Marty isn't inheriting a bad recruiting situation at that position. You shouldn't be at a school for seven years and not have the roster you want, with players ready to play your style. They certainly won't all be great, but if he's stuck playing a freshman who isn't ready, that's a problem with recruiting.
