My question is, who should be getting Simmons minutes? He is a 6-5, 210 lb G-F that is playing mainly the PF position. Here is Marty's other options at the 4:

Jaylon Moore is a 6-7 F-C. He averages 15 minutes, 4.6 points, 2.2 rebounds. with Simmons minutes he would average 9.1 points and 4.3 rebounds.

Rokas Cesnulevicius is a 6-8 F-C. He averages 3 minutes per game. Maybe he's the missing ingredient?

David Howard is a 6-8 F. He averages 7.2 minutes, 2.8 points, and 1.7 rebounds. With Simmons minutes he would average 11 points and 6.8 rebounds.

Simmons averages 8.8 points and 3.2 rebounds. He is also the only player of this group that is capable of spreading the defense with a 3 and he values the basketball.

To me, it looks like Simmons executes the way Dad wants. When one of the other three execute in the same manner, they will get more minutes. If I'm an Aces fan, my only complaint is that the coach did not bring in any talented PFs this year.

P.S. Evansville looks a lot like WSU under Randy Smithson, except that WSU cut ties after 4 years instead of 7+.

My question is, though, that if junior is the best they can do at that position, and even his defenders say he isn't ready for D1 ball, whose fault is that?

Marty isn't inheriting a bad recruiting situation at that position. You shouldn't be at a school for seven years and not have the roster you want, with players ready to play your style. They certainly won't all be great, but if he's stuck playing a freshman who isn't ready, that's a problem with recruiting.

Thanks so much for your input and continued support of UE athletics!

You must be thinking of Brown,

So, you really don't watch any of the Aces games? Interesting.

From Marty's point of view, when he recruited Blake, I don't think there was any thought he would start as a freshman. Blake committed to UE in spring of 2012, I believe he was the first commit in his class. Looking forward at that time the roster looked like this:

Balentine (G)
Cesnulevicius (F/C)
Howard (F/C)
Jahr (F)
Moore (F/C)
Nelson (G)
Sawvell (F/C)
Simmons (F)
Wing (F)
4 scholarships open.

I've bolded the players who could conceivably have competed for PT with Simmons.
Cesnulevicius has had several injuries since his freshman year that have prevented him from playing.
Howard has not developed into an impact player at this time (I'm not sure he will)
Jahr, Sawvell and Nelson transferred.
Moore has become a decent backup center, but doesn't have the jump shot Marty wants to play him at Forward.
Wing is starting at the 4.

Sawvell Jahr and Cesnulevicius would be the upper class men Sawvell and Rokas would be Juniors and Jahr the lone Senior Marty's mistake if any was not to get a Juco last year to replace Jahr

I haven't seen them all but Benzon didn't play point in any games that I have seen. He has one assist in 85 minutes of action. He must be the worst point guard in history. I'm starting to think you don't watch the Aces or you don't know the positions on the court.

I think Moore could play the center position moving Mock to forward. Mock has a nice stroke and should be able to hit the outside shot.

Then your back up at both at the 4and 5 becomes Howard or Wing at the 4. The redshirt freshman isn't making the impact as hoped for

Prolly shouldn't have run off Sawvell.

So you think 4 guys sharing two spots isn't enough.

From todays Courier&Press: "The incorporation of Benzon and Ptacek to spread the minutes in the back court has certainly helped, as well. With Benzon in for Gibson at point guard, sophomore guard D. J. Balentine is able to play off the ball..."
