Please, no one use any sort of statistics. Keep all discussion regarding basketball strictly limited to biased, uninformed speculation.
As everyone here is a former D1 player and D1 coach, I expect us to have riveting conversations regarding X's and O's.
I thought ISUs defense was very good, especially on FVV. Early was a little much for em, but it is well known that he is the biggest match-up problem in the NCAA outside of Jabari Parker. While my last statement may not be factually correct across all of college basketball, Early is certainly in that conversation.
As to the Odum/Early block/charge foul; I understand why most of the arena thought it was a bad call in real time. I understand that last year, that would have likely been called a charge. This year however, the secondary defender (Odum) MUST be completely still prior to any upward motion. Early's upward motion started back at the free throw line and prior to Jake being remotely in position. By the rules and the point of emphasis, the right call was made. Were Jake's feet planted prior to contact being initiated by Cle? Yes. Does it matter? No. The offensive player's freedom of movement was impeded by the defensive player. As a secondary defender, you have to allow the offensive player to continue his already initiated shot. Block it, get out of the way, or have a foul called on you. That's pretty much your options.
