No one involved in any decision making was working toward the Howard thing. A group of people heavily influenced by a local former HS coach were advancing and lobbying for a slate of candidates for AD and a potential coaching staff. While there may have been board members who were lending an ear to that group, the board recognizes the influence this particular group does not necessarily have the university's best interest in mind.
This particular group jumped the gun and overplayed their hand. Seeking power and instead their choice of coach takes a career hit.
